

Zuzi Zu


Zuzi Zu (birth name Zumreta Midžić) is a popular Bosnian artist: singer, musician and songwriter. She performs various music genres from pop-rock to Bosnian folk and Gypsy music. She was born in Velika Kladuša, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Yugoslavia and for many years she was living and working in Sarajevo. She developed two parallel and separated carriers: one was in economics and the other was in music.
In the mid seventies Zuzi Zu is studied at Faculty of Economics in the University of Sarajevo. When she's studied it she's also attended Sarajevo's Secondary Music School - Department of solo singing. At the time she was also a member of the Choir of Radio Television Sarajevo. Maestro Julio Marić, conductor of the Choir, selected her to sing backing vocals for the Festival "Vaš Šlager Sezone" in 1976 when songwriter Kemal Monteno won it with the famous song "Sarajevo, ljubavi moja". In 1978 Zuzi Zu graduated from the Faculty of Economics and she found employment in Government of Socialistic Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina – Department for planning of economic development - as a adviser for tourism and trade. She is continued her academic career and she granted in 1985 at The Institute of Social Studies in The Hague, The Netherlands.

In the year 1978 she sang in famous film "Nacionalna Klasa" (National class up to 785 cc) directed by Goran Marković. She sang backing vocals in the main musical theme of the film named "Floyd"(lead singer was Dado Topić). In the same film she sang solo song called "Hobby", where punk for the first time was introduced in Yugoslav music. Author of the soundtrack was composer Zoran Simjanović.
After that Zuzi Zu and Gordana Ivandić joined opera bass singer Mirza Alijagić and they formed disco group "Mirzino Jato". The period from 1979 to 1982, while she was a member of the group, was marked with some of their greatest Yugoslav disco hits such as "Apsolutno Tvoj", "Normalna Stvar", "Bez rezultata".
She sang backing vocals for the famous Gypsy song "Ederlezi" which became the trademark of the movie Emir Kusturica's "Time of the Gypsies". The soundtrack written by Goran Bregović one of the most internationally known modern musicians and composers of the Balkans.

Zuzi Zu was several years preparing her last solo album named "Made in Sarajevo". That CD contains 18 audio tracks and for every of them Zuzi Zu succede to make en official video spot. These are: "Vatra", "Trepavica", "Čičak", "Plava Banana", "San o Ljubavi", "Ederlezi", "Ružica si Bila", "Žena Istoka", "Reanimacija", "Morska Pjena", "Trag Ljubavi", "Where Love Has Gone", "Dove l’Amore", "Waar ben je Gebleven", "Delija", "Lutka od Gume", "Imal Jada k'o Kad Akšam Pada" and "Uspavanka". The contributors to the audio tracks are: Studio Kobac, Studio Al and Studio Aleksandar Radulović - Futa. The contributors to the official videos are: director Dejan Miličević, Invenio Films and video animator Berin Tuzlić. Zuzi Zu appears as a complete artist: author, producer, organizer, production designer and stylist-costume.
She participated in reality show TV PINK Farm 5 in the year 2013.
